Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replace just the glass on our skylight?

We do not recommend just glass replacement on skylights over 20 years old.  Because of age, skylight frames naturally deteriorate and break down; so the new glass may remedy the foggy glass issue, but the fact remains that you still have a 20-year-old skylight with a 20-year-old  frame, 20-year-old seals, etc.

How long do skylights last?

If installed correctly, skylight should last ~30 years. We see older Velux skylights that were installed 35+ years ago that are still functional, but the homeowner has elected to replace them for new, more energy-efficient models.

How long will new Velux skylights last?

Our estimate is 35 years plus! They are engineered and designed with modern sealants, materials and manufacturing to last longer now!

How does the solar tax credit work?

The federal government has made all solar products, along with the labor to install those products, eligible for a 30% tax credit. That means, 30% of the labor and material to install your Velux solar skylights and shades will be returned to you on your taxes!  (Speak to your tax professional for the specifics.)
